Checking out books
We hope to offer curbside pickup in 2020!
In non-pandemic years, classes come into the library media center once a week to participate in a lesson and choose books. They are also welcome to drop in any time to exchange books. Kindergarteners may choose one book to bring home. We ask students in grades 1-5 to take only as many as they will read! Books are due at the beginning of the next library period. Students may not check out new books until they have returned the books they borrowed the previous week. Students may renew a book until they have finished reading it. However, please return the book as quickly as possible when other people are waiting to read it.
Replacing lost or damaged books
If a book becomes lost or damaged, it is the responsibility of the student or the student's family to replace the book. The best option is to purchase a replacement copy, but you can also send in a check payable to WPS. The librarians generally send out bills in December and June. We would rather have the books than the money to replace them, so please take one last look before reporting that the book is lost!
** Special note: We will not be asking families to replace any books that were checked out before March 2020. Please return books that you find at home, but do not worry about any books that don't turn up. We just want everyone to read!
Donating books
The library media center gladly accepts donations of new or gently used books. Please make sure that all donations are in good condition, are appropriate for an elementary school, and do not contain out-of-date information. Please let us know who donated the book so we can thank you and include a book plate with your name! We do have a Wish List on Amazon.com and at Wellesley Books.
